Speed cameras have become a controversial topic in Maryland after the reported failure of the system in Baltimore. Baker said he emailed RedSpeed for an explanation. Scott Baker, director of the speed camera program for the Annapolis Police Department, said he was unaware of the phone calls. Their citations were also dismissed once they notified the court. Others issued citations said they received similar phone calls Thursday afternoon. He subsequently dismissed the citation after she informed him of the phone call. A representative for RedSpeed at the court hearing said the calls originated from the company, although there was confusion about the messages. RedSpeed USA, the Illinois-based administrator of the city's speed camera program, eventually agreed to dismiss some citations due to the phone calls. A handful of area residents had their speed camera citations dismissed Friday after they received a phone call Thursday telling them they did not need to show up for their court date.
